Everton lost again in the Premier League on Wednesday night; the Toffees going down 2-0 to Manchester City at Goodison Park.
Former Everton captain Alan Stubbs admits he is concerned about the club’s recent decline under Marco Silva, speaking to talkSPORT (7 February, 9:00am).
The Toffees produced a much-improved performance against Manchester City on Wednesday night but still went down 2-0 at Goodison Park, thanks to goals at the end of either half from Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus.
As a result, Everton have now won just six of their 18 games in all competitions, including an FA Cup fourth round defeat at Millwall and Saturday’s 3-1 home loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers – piling the pressure on head coach Marco Silva.
The Portuguese endured a similar collapse of form during his short-lived spell at Watford last season too. But, in quotes reported on the Alan Brazil Sport’s Breakfast, Stubbs has implored Everton to stick with Silva – for now at least.
“The one thing that Everton’s fans are concerned about, this feels like at Watford when they started the season really well,” Stubbs said.
“Everton have spent the best part of £250 million and that’s the worry, we don’t look like we’ve gone forward. We’ve stood still and stagnated. That is a concern.
“I think we need to stick with the manager, we’ve got to give him a bit of time and not make rash decisions. He’s got to see the season out.”
There are no signs that Silva’s job is under threat right now with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, who was central to his arrival in the summer, claiming earlier in the week that he is central to the club’s long-term plans (Sky).
They are still ninth in the Premier League table too, just five points off Wolves in seventh.
