Ajax’s Nick Viergever drops hint about Davinson Sanchez’s reported Tottenham Hotspur move

Tottenham Hotspur are determined to land highly-rated Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

Anyone who witnessed Peter Bosz’s Ajax storm to the Europa League final last season will be at pains to tell you just what a talent Davinson Sanchez is.

At the age of 21, the Colombian already appears to be the complete centre-half, blessed with fantastic reading of the game, perfectly controlled aggression and a passing range most central midfielders would be proud of. And that’s without mentioning his impressive tally of six Eredivisie goals in his debut Ajax season.

Therefore, its little surprise that Mauricio Pochettino, who has built his reputation on helping young players realise their potential, is keen to make Sanchez Tottenham Hotspur’s belated first summer signing.

Sky Sports report that Spurs have seen a club-record offer of £36.6 million rebuffed for Sanchez, who joined Ajax from Colombian side Atletico Nacional for around 10 per cent of that huge fee just 12 months ago.

The Daily Mail adds that, with Sanchez determined to force a big money move to England, he refused to board the team bus ahead of Ajax’s Eredivisie opener, a shock home defeat to Heracles, on Saturday.

And team-mate Nick Viergever has hardly dampened speculation linking Sanchez, arguably the most talented young defender in all of Europe, with a move to North London.

“I have no idea whether he’s gone, but I think he’s busy with a transfer,” the defender told Voetbal Zone when quizzed about Sanchez’s absence.

With Austrian international Kevin Wimmer clearly not part of Pochettino’s plans for next season, Sanchez could provide some much needed competition for first choice defensive pairing Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
