Liam Bridcutt joined Nottingham Forest in the summer but has not featured in the Championship since January under Aitor Karanka.

Nottingham Forest fans have been left a little frustrated with Liam Bridcutt’s ongoing omission from the side.

The hard-working midfielder has become a fan favourite at the City Ground since his £1 million summer move from Leeds United, as reported by the Nottingham Post, and was a clear first-team regular up until the end of January

Now, however, it is six weeks since Bridcutt featured for Forest in the Championship and he was left out of the squad altogether for the 2-1 win against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Although the fact that Forest are now in a position to leave out a proven Championship performer should, perhaps, be seen as a positive reflection on the impressive business Karanka did during the January transfer window.

Loanee Jack Colback has been superb since being handed an escape route from his Newcastle United purgatory and he put in another impressive performance in a victory over the Blues which cost Steve Cotterill his job.

Colback (below) was joined in midfield by Ben Watson, the veteran midfielder signed on a free after he was let go by Watford. Together, Colback and Watson have the makings of a solid midfield partnership that should provide some protection to a flimsy defence.

And another January addition, Adlene Guedioura, came off the bench to provide further energy in the centre of the park.

Bridcutt has gone from first to fourth choice in one transfer window. So the fact he is no longer a guaranteed fixture should be seen as a good thing for Forest and their fans.
