Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly eyeing £53m Benfica star Florentino Luis.

The agent of Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis has hinted that suggestions of interest from Manchester City are indeed correct, but admits to Calciomercato that the teenager is not likely to leave the Estadio da Luz this summer.

The 19-year-old forced his way into the Benfica starting XI since the turn of the year and made 11 Primeira Liga appearances as the Eagles overturned a seven-point deficit to snatch the title away from Porto.

And the Guardian reported that Manchester City were looking to bring Florentino to the Etihad Stadium as a potential long-term replacement for 34-year-old veteran Fernandinho.

But Bruno Carvalho, who represents the Portuguese starlet, believes that his client’s future is in Lisbon for at least another 12 months.

“Many clubs are interested but there is a common project with Benfica,” Carvalho said when asked directly about links with Manchester City.

“Florentino is not going to leave because he wants to play with the first team of Benfica. We could think about a transfer only after.

“He will be among the top 6 players in the world.”

The Guardian reports that Florentino has a £53 million release clause in his contract but Benfica are hoping to tie him down to a new deal which would see his value rise by about £35 million.

Florentino is just one of many highly-rated defensive midfielders who have been linked with City recently, including Declan Rice, Frenkie De Jong and Tanguy Ndombele.
