Inter Milan are one of the most illustrious clubs on the continent, not that their fourth most expensive player seems to think so.

The agent of Geoffrey Kondogbia says the midfielder moved to Inter Milan last summer in order to eventually secure a switch to one of Europe’s strongest sides, as reported by Football Italia.

The Frenchman became the third most expensive signing in Inter’s history behind Christian Vieri and Hernan Crespo when he swapped the marinas of Monaco for the 2010 Champions League winners last summer but has thus far failed to live up to lofty expectations.

Kondogbia struggled for consistency under Roberto Mancini last season before being publically slammed by successor Frank de Boer earlier this season after defying the Dutchman’s tactical advice and gifting Bologna a goal with an errant pass.

Furthermore, reports in Italy have suggested that Stefano Pioli, the latest incumbent of the San Siro hotseat, is unimpressed by the forceful midfielder, increasing speculation that he could be on his way to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

And Kondogbia’s agent has done little to dampen the rumours, suggesting that his client is only viewing one of Italy’s most illustrious clubs as something of a stepping stone.

“His arrival at Inter was another step towards getting to one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Jonathan Maarek told France Football, as reported by Football Italia. “That was the plan and it still is.”

The Express reported recently that Liverpool were monitoring the progress of a player whose energy and ability to transition between defence and attack would surely suit the hustle and bustle of the Premier League.

Furthermore, The Express also claim that Arsenal attempted to sign the 23-year-old last summer just months after his deflected long-range drive for Monaco knocked Arsene Wenger’s side out of the Champions League in the round-of-16.

Consequently, these latest developments will surely raise hopes that Kondogbia can be prised away from the San Siro in the upcoming transfer window, a prospective move that appears to benefit all parties.
