Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly want to bring Joao Felix to the Premier League from Primeira Liga side Benfica.
13 months ago, Wolverhampton Wanderers made headlines in England and Spain for beating Real Madrid to a hugely exciting signing.
According to Marca, Real Madrid were hoping to sign the highly-rated Valencia striker Rafa Mir and offered around £400,000 for his signature. But the Champions of Europe were blown out of the water by their opponents from the Black Country, paying £2 million to bring Mir to Molineux rather than Madrid.
Mir has not exactly set the world alight at Wolves and is currently on loan at Spanish second tier outfit Las Palmas. But the principle remains the same. With the help of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has connections at Valencia, Wolves left Real choking on their dust.
But could they repeat the trick in 2019? According to AS, Los Blancos are desperate to land one of the world’s most coveted young midfielders: the 19-year-old Benfica starlet Joao Felix.
In a surprise twist, however, the Mirror claims that Wolves are suddenly in pole position to sign Felix, despite the £105 million release clause in his contract. The teenager has scored nine goals for Benfica in his debut season in the first-team and has earned comparisons with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe.
There has been plenty of talk about the ambitious project underway at Molineux but beating Real Madrid to one of the world’s most exciting midfield talents? That would be quite a statement.
