Scottish Premiership champions Celtic wanted to sign another PSG youngster in January with Colin Dagba tipped to follow Timothy Weah to Parkhead.
Celtic failed in a bid to sign Colin Dagba on loan from Paris Saint Germain towards the end of the January transfer window, as reported by RMC Sport.
The 20-year-old defender has forced his way into PSG’s first team this season, starting three Ligue 1 games under the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel while filling in in either full-back position.
As it transpired, PSG had no interest in letting Dagba leave to link up with Timothy Weah at Parkhead. And now it is becoming clear why.
It seems that Tuchel has high hopes for the one-time Boulogne youngster between now and the end of the season, after all. The German coach showed just how much he admires Dagba by bringing him on for the last 15 minutes during PSG’s famous Champions League win at Old Trafford in midweek.
And Dagba looked assured off the bench, helping the Ligue 1 champions cruise to a 2-0 triumph over Manchester United.
Regular first-team football at Celtic could have done wonders for Dagba’s development. But getting the nod to come on in a win away at England’s biggest club is a sign that he could have a big role to play at PSG in the very near future.
Tuchel obviously trusted the inexperienced Dagba that he could handle such an occasion. And this bodes very well for his chances at the Parc des Princes.
