Achraf Lazaar made just four Championship apperances for Newcastle United in 2016/17 and has struggled in Serie A too with Benevento.

Unsurprisingly, Benevento are unlikely to make Achraf Lazaar’s loan move from Newcastle United permanent.

The former Palermo left-back returned to Serie A this summer after failing to make an impression at St James’ Park, but has not exactly found game time easy to come by with the Italian newcomers.

Lazaar has made just nine league appearances – and not a single one since mid-November after being left out of Benevento’s 25 man squad for the second half of the season.

The Chronicle stated, then, that the Moroccan will return to Newcastle in the summer – though Rafa Benitez might have a challenge on his hands finding a buyer for a man who played just 37 minutes of league football for the club during 2016/17, spread across four substitute appearances.

Though, to Lazaar’s credit, the 26-year-old knows exactly where he wants to be next season.

In an interview with Gazzamercato, the £2 million man has admitted that there is interest in his services from the MLS – and has suggested that he would jump at the chance to move across the Atlantic in order to boost his dream of representing Morocco in the World Cup next summer.

The Major League Soccer transfer window is open until May 1st, meaning there is still time for Lazaar to secure a move away from Benevento, let alone Newcastle, before Morocco start putting players on the plane to Russia.
