Moussa Dembele’s influence under Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs is waning – and Serie A giants AC Milan are said to want to take him to the San Siro.

Tottenham Hotspur’s form has risen and fallen with Moussa Dembele. A real enigma of a player, the powerhouse midfielder was at his influential best as Spurs came close to sealing a first ever Premier League title in each of the last two seasons.

But with Tottenham way off the pace this season, their struggles have mirrored that of Dembele. The former Fulham star has put in a series of indifferent performances throughout 2017/18 and has started just eight Premier League games. That number might have been even smaller had Victor Wanyama not missed most of the season through injury.

And Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has now claimed that Dembele could be on his way out of Spurs in January – to struggling Serie A giants AC Milan.

Milan, who spent almost £200 million in the summer to force their way back into the title race, have endured a disastrous season and sit all the way down in seventh place, 11 points adrift of the final Champions League spot.

And it’s claimed they want a dynamic midfielder to strengthen a rather weak spine in January. But would now be the right time for Spurs to cash in on Dembele, midway through a season and with a hectic fixture schedule on the horizon?

Perhaps it would. After all, Dembele’s contract has only 18 months left to run and, according to Sky Sports recently, manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a replacement with Valencia loanee Geoffrey Kondogbia at the top of his wishlist.

Dembele’s influence and status at Spurs appears to be in decline – perhaps it is better to sell now than lose him on the cheap at a later date.
