David Vaughan’s contract at Championship outfit Nottingham Forest expires this summer and his time at the City Ground is up.

Reports in the Nottingham Post that David Vaughan has been told he can leave the City Ground this summer appears to have split supporters right down the middle.

The 34-year-old Welshman has been one of Forest’s best performers over a difficult couple of years and will always be respected in the East Midlands for his superb displays as the club avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season.

But the injuries have taken their toll in recent months and Vaughan has managed 15 Championship appearances in 2017/18, just two since Aitor Karanka took over in January.

So you could certainly argue that it is justified that Forest are set to bid farewell to Vaughan when his contract expires this summer – especially with the club aiming to free up funds to sign the younger Jack Colback on a permanent deal from Newcastle United.

Though while some supporters have taken to Twitter to say goodbye to a ‘bang average’ footballer, others are lining up to pay tribute to an ‘absolute legend’.

Even the most ardent Vaughan enthusiast should probably agree that comparing the former Sunderland midfielder to one Paul Scholes is a little extreme, however.
