Not for the first time, former Stadium of Light hero Dwight Yorke has admitted an interest in taking over at Sunderland.
Dwight Yorke appears to be absolutely certain that he would kick Sunderland back into life if he was appointed as the replacement for Chris Coleman at the Stadium of Light.
The former Black Cats favourite says he is absolutely certain that Sunderland would be promoted from League One in no time at all should he be handed his first managerial role on Wearside.
“I was given that chance with that team with my mentality, my philosophy, I am sure I would get that football club back in the Championship – without a doubt,” Yorke said in quotes reported by The Chronicle.
But, after eight managers in five years, its fair to say the Sunderland fans aren’t exactly thrilled about the prospect of hiring a man with absolutely no experience in top level coaching bar a short-term spell as the assistant at Trinidad and Tobago eight years ago.
Sunderland have been a basket case of a club on and off the field for far too long and it seems they would benefit from a safe pair of hands, a Chris Wilder or a Mick McCarthy for instance, rather than a managerial novice like Yorke.
‘Thanks but no thanks’ appears to be the overall verdict.
