Graeme Murty has walked out of Ibrox with three games left to go in the Scottish Premiership season after Rangers’ 5-0 defeat at Celtic.

4-0 and 5-0 thrashings away at Celtic in the space of two weeks might have proven once and for all that Graeme Murty was not the man to usher in a new era at Rangers.
But surely he deserved to be treated with more respect than he was afforded as his reign as the Ibrox interim manager came to sticky, yet not unsurprising, end.
As reported by the Daily Record, Murty has left Rangers with immediate effect, bidding an unhappy farewell to the club he joined as a development coach in 2016 and dug out of a hole last October when they sacked Pedro Caixinha with no clear replacement in mind.

Murty was only too happy to help out and coach the team for the remainder of the season when doomed attempts to lure the likes of Derek McInnes to the blue half of Glasgow failed and, even though results and performances declined considerably, the 40-year-old tried to go about his business with dignity and class.
All the while, the Daily Record state that he felt deserted by the Rangers board in the aftermath of Sunday’s nightmare defeat at Celtic while it is understood Murty was humiliated by owner Dave King effectively telling season-ticket holders that he wouldn’t be in a job next season.

So the treatment of this likeable character has hardly boosted the reputation of Rangers outside of Ibrox.
