Championship outfit Nottingham Forest reportedly offered £3million to sign Scott McKenna from Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has admitted that star centre-back Scott McKenna was disappointed not to seal a move away from Pittodrie with Nottingham Forest one of the clubs keen to snap him up over the summer, speaking to the Scottish Sun.
It was another busy summer at the City Ground with a new manager and a whole host of additions to the playing staff. But one player Forest didn’t manage to get over the line was highly-rated defender McKenna.
According to the Daily Record, the Championship outfit failed with a £3 million offer for a 22-year-old who has already captained Scotland at international level.
Forest were apparently determined to get McKenna signed up but, by the time the English transfer window slammed shut, he was still plying his trade north of the border.
While praising McKenna’s professionalism despite him handing in a transfer request to force a move, McInnes did admit that his prized asset was not too happy with how things worked out.
“He’s been almost faultless. He’s been different class and on Thursday night (against Rijeka in Europa League qualifying) I thought he was fantastic,” said the former West Brom captain. “He got his game head on and got on with it.
“Obviously (there was) a bit of disappointment there for him but everybody at the club is right behind him and I’m sure the fans will get right behind him as well.”
Forest did look pretty solid without McKenna in their ranks during an impressive 1-1 draw away at Leeds United on Saturday however. Joe Worrall has returned from a loan spell at Rangers a far more mature footballer while captain Michael Dawson rolled back the years with a Man of the Match display at Elland Road.
Yet if McKenna continues to star north of the border, Aberdeen should expect further bids in January.
