Everton have reportedly made a bid to bring Barcelona’s La Liga champion and World Cup star Yerry Mina to the Premier League.

Yerry Mina really does have his pick of clubs right now.

According to Sport, Everton, West Ham United and Leicester City have all made bids for Colombia’s World Cup star, while some of the biggest teams in Turkey are also allegedly keen to offer him an escape route from Barcelona.

Of all the reported suitors, Everton are perhaps the team who have been most heavily linked of late. They are alleged to have made a number of bids for Mina, the latest reaching £26.5 million, and have supposedly held talks over a potential move to Goodison Park.

But, if you ask arguably the biggest legend in Colombian football, poodle-haired play-maker Carlos Valderrama, Mina should be thinking bigger than the blue half of Merseyside.

“The Premier League is attractive but for me the Champions League is the most prestigious,” Valderrama told El Pulso del Futbol on Radio Caracol (broadcast 1pm, 16 June). “I don’t think Yerry should join a mid-table team like Everton.

“Fatih Terim has a great record developing players, if it were me I would pick Galatasaray.”

Galatasaray edged out Istanbul BB, Besiktas and Fenerbahce to seal the Super Lig crown in a dramatic title race last season and will therefore be playing Champions League football in 2018/19.

But cash-strapped Gala could not hope to possibly beat Everton in financial terms. So the £26.5 million bid reportedly launched by the Toffees could already rule the Istanbul giants out of the race.
