Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have joined the list of suitors to sign Jack Marriott from League One Peterborough United

The more cynical sections of the Rangers support may draw comparisons with Joe Garner with Sky Sports claiming that the Light Blues are keen on a summer deal for Jack Marriott.
Rangers paid £1.8 million to bring Garner to Ibrox from Preston North End in the summer of 2016 but a player who was absolutely prolific in the third tier of English football simply failed to cut the mustard in Scotland. Garner netted just seven league goals and left for Ipswich a year later.

But Marriott, however, is an entirely different proposition.
For one, he’d cost a lot more. The Mail states that League One Peterborough United would demand £5 million for the 23-year-old, a year after snapping him up from Luton Town for a six-figure sum.
Though there’s a reason why Marriott is so expensive. He is the most prolific striker in the Football League right now with 33 goals in all competitions for Peterborough this season.
And while Garner appeared to have hit his glass ceiling in League One, a physical, hard-working striker lacking somewhat in technique, Marriott is a natural born goalscorer who has the innate ability to play at a far higher level.

As reported by The Mail, he likens himself to none other than Sergio Aguero. Blessed with quick feet, razor-sharp movement and a lethal finish, there are certain comparisons.
Now, while Garner struggled to adapt to life in Scotland and Rangers’ style of play, Marriott is the sort of talent that Steven Gerrard could build his side around. He would be a striker capable of rivalling Moussa Dembele in the goalscoring charts and turning Rangers into a far more fearsome opponent.
But time will tell whether they are willing to break that £5 million barrier for the first time in 13 years.
