Liverpool reportedly want to raid Premier League rivals Newcastle United to sign the St. James’ Park skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

Liverpool look set to be frustrated in any pursuit of Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles this summer.

The Independent stated that Jurgen Klopp wanted the Magpies ace as he aims to reinforce a rather suspect backline. But, in quotes reported by the Shields Gazette, Lascelles has made it pretty clear that he is happy with life at St James’ Park.

“This is the happiest I’ve been,” said the former Nottingham Forest youngster. “I’m playing week in, week out, and I’m the captain here.”

And if Liverpool were to make a bid anyway, Newcastle fans have made it pretty clear that any offer should not be a penny below £60 million, edging towards a world-record equalling fee.

The Reds paid £75 million for Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk in January, making him the most expensive defender in the history of football.

And Newcastle supporters obviously believe Lascelles is worth a similar fee after a season in which he has established himself as a more than capable Premier League centre-half.

It is unknown how much Liverpool would be willing to pay for the 24-year-old but, with the Van Dijk deal financed by the mega-money sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, it seems unlikely the Reds’ would be willing to threaten their own record signing this summer.
