Championship strugglers Sunderland could be tempted to cash in on record signing Didier Ndong with Watford keen to hand him a Premier League chance.

In October 2016, a stat emerged which rather summed up the dreadful recruitment that has taken place at Sunderland over the last few seasons.
Of the 46 new signings to arrive at the Stadium of Light since 2009, the Black Cats only made a profit on three of those. And while it would be harsh to label Didier Ndong a ‘flop’, the fact is that the club’s current record signing simply has not lived up to his £13.6 million price tag consistently enough, as reported by the BBC.
And a year-and-a-half after arriving on Wearside from Ligue 1 side Lorient, the Watford Observer claim that Sunderland could make a substantial loss on their investment.

It is understood that Premier League side Watford have made an enquiry about the availability of the Gabonese international midfielder. Encouraged by the long-term injuries suffered by Nathanial Chalobah and Will Hughes, it is understood that the Hornets would be willing to pay £8 million for Ndong – provided they can beat off hefty competition for his signature.
Ndong was a rare bright spark in Sunderland’s 2016/17 relegation season but he simply has not made an impression since they dropped into the Championship.

The 23-year-old has made just two substitute appearances since Chris Coleman took over in November. And even though Sunderland would be making a £5.6 million loss, a substantial January windfall would still give the Black Cats some much-needed wriggle room in the transfer market.
