Birkir Bjarnason is the latest player being linked with a move away from Championship giants Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.
Birkir Bjarnason has never been a first-team regular since he moved to Aston Villa in January of last year from FC Basel.
But that does not mean the Icelandic international is not a firm favourite of the Villa Park faithful. Versatile, hard-working and with a wonderful goal against bitter rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers under his belt, 30-year-old Bjarnason is one player the fans would love to see stay despite the financial crisis engulfing Aston Villa.
The Telegraph reports that Villa need to raise £50 million in the next two transfer windows through player sales in order to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions. Jack Grealish, James Chester and co could be on their way out with Robert Snodgrass, Sam Johnstone, Lewis Grabban and John Terry already gone.
Villa fans, however, have made it very clear what they think of these reports. Albeit tongue in cheek, supporters have demanded a massive fee for one of their favourite players.
But with Villa in financial distress, don’t be surprised if Bjarnason is sold for much less than, ahem, £50 million…
