Rangers’ Scottish Premiership talisman Alfredo Morelos missed his chance, quite literally, as Colombia lost to South Korea.

With 29 goals in all competitions this season, Alfredo Morelos certainly deserved his chance for the Colombian national team.

The Rangers striker was hailed by Bayern Munich superstar James Rodriguez as ‘the future’ of Colombian football over the weekend, as reported by the Scottish Sun, and there was a lot of expectation on his shoulders heading into the international break.

After coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Japan, Morelos was given an overdue chance from the start as Carlos Queiroz’s side faced South Korea on Tuesday. But did the Rangers striker seize his chance? Not exactly.

Morelos was pretty much anonymous in his 45 minutes on the pitch, failing to convert the one chance that came his way.

The former HJK Helsinki star was inches away from tapping in a Sebastian Villa cross, only to see the ball drift narrowly out of his reach.

So there was little surprise when Morelos was subbed at the interval. And the 22-year-old’s difficulties were reflected in the post-match player ratings, published on the South American edition of ESPN.

“Very little from one of the standard-bearers of Colombia’s renewal,” they wrote. “He did not complement well with (strike partner) Duván Zapata and the only opportunity he had he failed to convert.

“When the team needed more mobility, he didn’t provide the answer.”

If you are wondering, Morelos was given a rating of 4/10.
