Former Schalke midfielder Max Meyer has been linked with countless Premier League clubs but Crystal Palace have emerged as a shock destination.

Few had expected that coveted Germany starlet Max Meyer would still be without a club, almost two months after his contract with Schalke expired.
But, according to Tuttomercatoweb, this could have something to do with the wages Meyer is demanding. It is understood that Liverpool and Arsenal are big fans of the 22-year-old but have been put off by his £85,000-a-week requirements.
So, if Crystal Palace want to bring Meyer to Selhurst Park – and the Mail claims that they do – the Eagles would have to make Meyer one of their best paid players. According to Spotrac, only Wilfried Zaha, Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho earn more than £85,000-a-week in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
But Meyer could be worth every penny.
The four-time German international has been one of Europe’s most in-demand midfielders for the last few years. Tottenham even offered £38 million for him in 2016, according to Bild.

And, while Meyer has not quite developed into the stylish, Andres Iniesta-like play-maker many had predicted he would become, the former Schalke starlet had arguably the most consistent season of his career as the Gelsenkirchen outfit finished second in 2017/18.
Domenico Tedesco turned Meyer into a classy and dynamic number six and he would be a sensational addition for a club of Crystal Palace’s stature. In fact, he could be one of their best value signings in years.
