West Ham United are reportedly trying to hijack Premier League rivals Chelsea’s £35million move for Ligue 1 ace Jean Michel Seri.

If Manuel Pellegrini was worried about West Ham United’s perceived lack of ambition, snatching Jean Michel Seri from under the noses of Chelsea would be quite the statement from the Chilean’s new employers.

It is understood that the Ivorian, who has a £35 million release clause in his contract, is in advanced talks with the Blues but West Ham have not given up hope of landing one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders.
It has been clear for some time that West Ham need star quality in the centre of the park and Seri, more than any of the other enforcers linked in the last five or six months, would be exactly what the club is looking for.

In contrast to the rather limited Joe Allen, Jonjo Shelvey and Harry Arter, Seri is a midfielder with real star quality. There was a reason Barcelona were so keen to sign him last summer and why Chelsea, Napoli and Dortmund are allegedly keen now.
The 26-year-old, who Spanish legend Xavi believes has ‘Barcelona DNA’, is one of the most talented midfielders in Europe and would be a far better addition than your average Premier League plodder a la Arter or Allen.
If West Ham want to make a statement this summer, this is it.
