Unai Emery’s Arsenal have reportedly renewed their interest in Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who has shone in the Bundesliga with Mainz.

Arsenal target Jean-Philippe Gbamin wants to leave Mainz and secure a dream move to the Premier League this summer, as reported by Kicker.

An Ivory Coast international who idolises compatriot Yaya Toure, the 23-year-old has been a key player for the Bundesliga club since he joined from Lens in France in the summer of 2016.

And Fussball Transfers reports that Gbamin’s performances have caught the eye of Arsenal, who will have to pay £30 million for the 23-year-old if they really want to bring him to The Emirates. RMC Sports claimed they also showed an interest last year before landing Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

Gbamin is dreaming of a move to the Premier League this summer after being denied a switch 12 months ago, according to Kicker, which looks like good news for Arsenal.

But Mainz will not let one of their key players depart without a fight.

“He is far from gone, even if many clubs are interested. He has a long-term contract with us until 2023. If we lose such a player, it has to pay off financially,” sporting director Rouven Schroder said.

Gbamin is a deep-lying midfield player by trade but he is also blessed with plenty of skill and the ability to drive past the opposition with his jinking, eye-catching style.
