Jack Colback thrived in the Championship on loan at Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United last season.

Nottingham Forest would love to keep Jack Colback at the City Ground.

The midfielder arrived in the East Midlands on loan from Newcastle United in the January transfer window and made a big impression with his tenacity and work rate in the centre of the park.

Colback has no future at Newcastle, having been forced to play with the reserves in the first-half of last season after resisting Rafa Benitez’s orders to find a new club. And, with Newcastle keen to get this £40,000-a-week outcast off the wage bill, the 28-year-old will once again be made available this summer.

And the Chronicle states that Newcastle would not expect to earn a big fee from his departure, with a fee of around £2 million understood to have been put on Colback’s head.

So if Forest can afford his hefty wages, amid fears that they will break the club’s pay structure, a £2 million price-tag would land Aitor Karanka one of the best bargains of this summer’s transfer window.

Considering that the likes of Jonny Howson and Adam Forshaw have moved for fees of around double that in the last 12 months, £2 million is a real bargain for a player who arguably has Premier League qualities.

The fee shouldn’t be a problem for Forest. Now they just need to work out the wages.
