Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers were battling Premier League colossus Liverpool for Benfica’s Anderson Talisca two years ago.

Back in the summer of 2016, the idea of Wolverhampton Wanderers paying £20 million for Benfica’s Brazilian star Anderson Talisca looked laughable.

The Sun stated that Talisca was set to become the most expensive player in Championship history with Wolves beating Liverpool to his signature.

Soon after, however, the talented midfielder joined Besiktas on loan instead, but if Wolves were to renew their interest this summer, surely the rumours would be taken a little more seriously.

After all, Wolves have shown a remarkable amount of ambition in the transfer market, with funding from their Chinese owners and the connections with super-agent Jorge Mendes allowing some huge talents to rock up at Molineux.

And Talisca, it must be added, is a Mendes client.

So with Liverpool once again keen on the 24-year-old, scouting him during Besiktas’ 5-0 Champions League thrashing at Bayern Munich on Tuesday according to Turkish Football, it will be interesting to see whether we see a repeat of that 2016 transfer tussle with runaway Championship leaders Wolves eyeing players that will ease their adaptation to Premier League life upon promotion.

Anderson Talisca of SL Benfica scores a goal against CS Maritimo during the Portuguese Primeira Liga at Estadio dos Barreiros on May 8, 2016 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.

Talisca won the Super Lig title last season at Besiktas after scoring 13 goals in 21 league starts and has another nine in 20 this time around.

Furthermore, he has four goals in the Champions League and the prospect of the Brazilian linking up with fellow Portuguese speakers Ruben Neves, Ivan Cavaleiro and Diogo Jota will have Wolves fans salivating.
