Tony Pulis knows Joe Ledley well from his time at Crystal Palace and the Welsh midfielder would surely jump at the chance of joining West Bromwich Albion.
Why Joe Ledley is still without a club is anyone’s guess. Just over a year ago, the 73-time international was helping Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 but now he is a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace upon the expiry of his contract.
It must be said that Ledley did not exactly do himself any favours in his search for new employment by rejecting offers from Championship clubs, as reported by the BBC, therefore ruling out potential moves to Aston Villa and Derby County.
Understandably, Ledley was keen to remain in the Premier League with plenty of energy still in his legs at the age of 30. The Mirror reported that Brighton, Stoke and West Brom were interested in a player with over 100 top flight appearances in Palace colours but no move materialised.
On the upside, however, Ledley is free to move outside of the transfer window, meaning it is hugely unlikely that he will be sat at home twiddling his thumbs until January. And it would make sense for West Brom to make their move now and reinforce a midfield that still appears in need of a few upgrades.
True, the Baggies pulled off one of the most exciting coups of the summer when they landed Polish international Grzegorz Krychowiak, who cost PSG £28 million a year ago (The Guardian), on a season-long loan.
But Tony Pulis was unable to get any other deals over the line, reported interest in William Carvalho and Joshua Guilavogui coming to nothing while Globo Esporte claimed that a £10 million deal to sign Fenerbahce’s Josef de Souza fell through as he couldn’t agree personal terms.
Therefore, if Pulis wants to further reinforce his midfield, where better to look than a player he brought to Crystal Palace from Celtic in the winter of 2014?
