Paul Cook is one of the names in the frame to take over at League One newcomers Sunderland this summer.

If Sunderland are looking for a manager to lead them out of League One next season, who better than the man currently one point away from clinching the third tier title?
According to TEAMtalk, Sunderland have drawn up a four-man shortlist as they aim to replace Chris Coleman. And current Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook, along with Chris Wilder, Michael Appleton and Colorado Rapids coach Anthony Hudson, is under consideration.

Cook has been one of the favourites with the bookmakers over recent days, so reports that he is in with a shout will elicit a mixed response on Wearside.
The Liverpudlian tactician has proved himself in the third tier with Wigan and has an enviable promotion record, too. He led Chesterfield and Portsmouth to the League Two title in his previous posts.
Yet, there are still some Sunderland fans who are unconvinced; some even claiming that the sacked Coleman and Simon Grayson would have been better bets.

Although Cook, like Wilder, has an excellent record in League One and appears to have the appetite and character to turn around an ailing club like Sunderland.
In their current position, there are surely not too many better candidates available.
