Could Steven Gerrard hand his former England teammate Darren Bent a lifeline with Scottish Premiership giants Rangers?

In the space of just a few days, two former Aston Villa and England strikers have expressed an interest in moving to the Old Firm.
Free agent Gabby Agbonlahor told the Scottish Sun that he would jump at the chance of joining Celtic and was hoping for talks with Brendan Rodgers after wearing the green-and-white Hoops in Saturday’s Match for Cancer fundraiser.
And now, Darren Bent has admitted to talkSPORT that he too would relish the opportunity to get his career back on track north of the border.
Speaking to Jim White, a move to Celtic’s bitter rivals Rangers would certainly appeal for Agbonlahor’s former Villa Park teammate.
“100 per cent!” said Bent, who scored twice on loan at Burton Albion last season.
“You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers. To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely!”

The former Tottenham and Sunderland striker is without a club after being released by Derby County in the summer. And Bent knows Rangers boss Steven Gerrard well from his time in the England national team.
Gerrard has already signed one experienced free agent outside of the transfer window, with Gareth McAuley putting pen to paper last week at Ibrox.
