McGeady has played 35 games for Sunderland since joining in 2017, could a summer move for Morgan leave McGeady out in the cold?

Reports of a summer move for Celtic’s Lewis Morgan from Sunderland continue to circulate, with the winger set to return back to Celtic after a loan-spell at St Mirren in the second half of last season.
New Sunderland manager Jack Ross looks keen to bring his fellow Scot and former player to Wearside, with the winger unlikely to feature for Scottish big boys Celtic in the near future.
21-year-old Morgan could be an excellent signing for the Black Cats and one that may assist with Sunderland’s promotion bid next term.
The Scotsman enjoyed a good campaign for St Mirren after Christmas, making 15 appearances and netting five goals from left midfield.
The youngster clearly enjoyed playing under the watchful eye of 42-year-old Ross last term, scoring a goal in every three games – something that Sunderland were in desperate need of last campaign.
However, despite rumours of Morgan signing being positive for the Black Cats, his arrival could leave 32-year-old Aiden McGeady out in the cold and subsequently wanting a summer transfer move.

Both players have similar attributes and are similar in their nature – with both men carrying a lot of flair on the ball and both chipping in with goals for their clubs from left midfield last season.
However, one thing that Morgan has in his favour is his youth – something that McGeady can’t offer the Black Cats at 32-years-old.
And with Ross certainly keen to build a squad around Sunderland’s young players ahead of League One, Morgan would fit right into that mantle.

Although McGeady would certainly be an excellent option for Sunderland to have from the bench, the former Everton man is unlikely to be keen on playing his football in England’s third tier only as a squad player – suggesting he may well leave Wearside if Morgan does sign on the dotted line.
However, despite the repercussions of Morgan signing for the Black Cats not being good for McGeady – it is with little doubt that the 21-year-old would be an excellent summer signing for for League One Sunderland.
