Sunderland Under-23’s have lost back-to-back games in their new Premier League 2 season.

Sunderland’s Under-23 side were given a derby day drubbing when they were beaten 5-0 by Newcastle Under-23’s on Monday evening at St James’ Park.

Coach Elliot Dickman saw his side not only heavily beaten, but totally dominated over the 90 minutes, making it back-to-back losses in the Premier League 2.

Dickman spoke to the Chronicle in the wake of his sides defeat and he revealed his players were given some home truths moments after the final whistle blew.

On what was said in the dressing room after the match, Dickman said: “Normally I would sleep on it and then we’d get back together in the morning, but I couldn’t let that go tonight so there have been a few home truths said in the dressing room.

“Nobody likes getting beaten, but when you lose to Newcastle like we have done tonight it is really not acceptable.”

Sunderland’s defeat to their bitter rivals was made even worse by the established youth players who were included in the side, with Elliot Embleton, Ethan Robson, Denver Hume and Luke Molyneux all starting the game.

Dickman’s side’s defeat leaves them bottom of Group Two of the Premier League 2 setup, with no points on the board and a goal difference of minus six.

The Black Cats’ youth side will be hoping to get back on track straight away with a win against Reading Under-23’s, a side who sit just two positions above them on one point.
