Josh Maja has nine goals in League One for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland forward Jerome Sinclair joined the club in the summer on loan from Premier League side Watford, as the youngster looked to kick-start his career.

The 22-year-old scored his first goal in Black Cats colours against Peterborough United earlier this month and the Wearside faithful, along with manager Jack Ross, hoped Sinclair’s stint in the North-East could firmly begin.

But performances since that goal against Peterborough have seriously slumped once again and with talisman Josh Maja waiting in the wings for a start back in Sunderland’s side, it is time for the 19-year-old to be reintroduced.

Sinclair works tirelessly throughout every match and has done since his first game against Charlton Athletic, but lacks obvious quality in front of goal – evident with his one goal in nine appearances.

Fans on Wearside also questioned Sinclair’s quality prior to his arrival, especially given the attacker failed to score with former clubs Liverpool, Watford, Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic in a combined total of 17 appearances.

And that record has evidently remained unchanged in his time with Sunderland and as the League One schedule heats up, it’s time for Maja to be back in the starting line-up this weekend.

Sunderland travel to Home Park this weekend and with Maja now fully fit after an ankle problem which saw him miss games against Doncaster Rovers and Southend United, the 19-year-old has to be back in Ross’ side.

The academy graduate is second in the third tier scoring charts and that will certainly come in handy away to Plymouth, a side who are also in form, but the decision will be down to Ross who won’t want to ruin morale in the squad.
