Chris Maguire has scored five goals and provided three assists for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland attacker Chris Maguire has been nothing short of excellent this season, scoring five goals and assisting his teammates on three occasions in League One.
The summer arrival won the ‘September Goal of the Month’ accolade recently for his wonderful strike in Sunderland’s 2-1 loss against Burton Albion and continues to be at the heart of everything positive with his new club.
And in an interview with Sky Sports, Maguire heaped praise on his manager and fellow countryman Jack Ross, who travelled across the border to be appointed as Sunderland manager in May.
When speaking about 42-year-old Ross, Maguire said: “It’s the first time I’ve worked with him but I actually played against him in Scotland a couple of times. He’s been brilliant with me and all the boys enjoyed working with him.
“He gives us the freedom to play and doesn’t care if we make mistakes. We’ve got a few different formations that he’s put in place but everyone always knows their role. He’s got the backing of every player here.”

Former St Mirren manager Ross has lost just two games in his sixth months as Sunderland boss, one of which came against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and just once in the third tier against Nigel Clough’s Burton.
And the Wearside team’s players have been flourishing in what is a new era with the North East club, especially Maguire – who has become a fan favourite with his exceptional displays in Sunderland colours.
