Max Power was sent off for the second time this season in Sunderland’s 2-1 win over Bradford City.

Sunderland summer signing Max Power has been excellent on Wearside in League One since his arrival from Wigan Athletic.

The Black Cats midfielder has even captained Jack Ross’ side in recent matches in the absence of skipper George Honeyman and vice captain Lee Cattermole.

Although, two sending offs in just 12 third tier games can’t go unnoticed and his most recent sending off against Bradford City means Power might’ve lost his place in Ross’ side once he returns.

Power kicked out at a Bradford player in ridiculous fashion in the 66th minute and it’s the second sending off in as many games for the Black Cats after Bryan Oviedo did the same against Peterborough United in midweek.

Thankfully for Sunderland, Power’s sending off didn’t cost them the important three points at Valley Parade last weekend, but a second red card in the space of four appearances simply is not acceptable from the former Wigan man.

And Power’s disciplinary problems might just have cost him his place in the Sunderland side for his return next month, especially given how vital this season in League One is for the former Premier League side.

It’ll now be down to the impressive Lee Cattermole and Dylan McGeouch to form a partnership that keep Sunderland on the right track in the third division, especially with the heavy winter schedule not far away at all.
