Sunderland’s Max Power returns from his five-game suspension against Port Vale this weekend.

Sunderland signed Max Power in the summer and the Birkenhead-born man has looked like a good addition to Jack Ross’s side for the majority of this campaign.

Power has looked a level above League One in the Black Cats’ midfield, but the 25-year-old has missed more than half the campaign after being sent off on two separate occasions.

The former Latics player is set to play a part in his side’s trip to Port Vale for their FA Cup match this weekend, but the Sunderland man has a lot to prove to both his manager and the loyal travelling fans.

Power has looked a classy addition to Ross’s side and a player who could be a big part of the club’s plans going forward, especially with his composure on the ball and ability to control the pace of the game from the anchor role.

But, with an obvious temperament issue that has seen Power sent off against both Bradford and Oxford United, the midfielder has not allowed himself to become an integral part of the first-team.

Power has bagged two brilliant goals in the few games he has featured in, one against Gillingham and one against Scunthorpe United; with his best game in a Sunderland shirt actually coming against the latter.

The impressive player has a big task on his hands to now work his way back up the pecking order and into the first-team ahead of both Lee Cattermole and Dylan McGeouch. But Power could go a long way towards doing so if he impresses against Port Vale this weekend.
