Sunderland have been on the road for their past two games in League One, but have recorded back-to-back wins with a 4-1 victory over Gillingham and a 2-1 win against AFC Wimbledon.

The Black Cats can now look forward to two home games on the bounce in the third tier, starting this weekend against Oxford United, followed by a game against Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town.

And manager Jack Ross has said his players are desperate to get back to the Stadium of Light in an interview with the Sunderland Echo.

Speaking about returning to Wearside this weekend, Ross said: “We have an incredibly passionate home fan base, and what we’ve managed to do in the two home games to date in the league is produce results and performances that have engaged them and enthused them.

“When you get those two together it’s really powerful, because of that the players and staff are desperate to get back there on Saturday and replicate the performance last time we played at home.”

Sunderland are still unbeaten this season in League One and Ross will be hoping his side can remain in the automatic places with a win against Karl Robinson’s Oxford next time out.

The hosts will also have some players returning from injury on Saturday, with number nine Charlie Wyke back in the squad and summer signing Tom Flanagan expected to play a part.
