Sunderland forward Charlie Wyke was stretchered off with a knee injury against Burton Albion last weekend.

Sunderland were heavily reliant on Josh Maja to score their goals in the early part of the League One season, with summer signing Charlie Wyke having been out with a knee injury.
The former Bradford City striker returned to the Black Cats line-up only a few weeks ago, but in their first loss of the season against Burton Albion, Wyke was once again stretchered off with an injury to the same knee.
And with Josh Maja’s performances having slumped, Sunderland manager Jack Ross might regret not bringing in another forward over the summer.
Sunderland were said to be interested in free agent Gael Andonian, who is a similar type of target-man to Wyke, but the third tier outfit ended their interest late last week.
19-year-old Maja has five goals this season, but the striker’s performances have spiralled in recent match and with Sunderland set to now be reliant on him once more, unnecessary pressure is likely to be placed on his shoulders once again.

Other forward options include Jerome Sinclair, who has also only just returned from injury, and the in-form Chris Maguire, but both players have been fielded as wingers in recent weeks.
42-year-old Ross might be forced into exploring the free agent market once again for a striker to provide cover, especially with the hectic winter schedule not far away.
