Sunderland were linked with Nottingham Forest’s Scottish striker Jason Cummings earlier this summer.

Sunderland made some shrewd signings this summer, with the emphasis placed on attacking players to bolster their goal-scoring options.
The Black Cats brought in Bradford City forward Charlie Wyke and Jack Ross’s side were also linked with Scottish forward Jason Cummings back in July, but failed to get the deal over the line.
And, from the evidence of the opening five games of the season, Sunderland have made a big mistake not finalising a deal for the Nottingham Forest striker.
The 23-year-old joined Sunderland’s promotion rivals Peterborough United on loan when the forward did not link up with the Wearsiders and currently sits at the top of the goal-scoring charts in the third division.
Cummings has six goals from five games so far this season, as well as two assists, and he looks to be a level above his current opponents.

Sunderland sit second in League One and Ross has made no secret of his desire to bring in another striker to add competition for places alongside Wyke and the in-form Josh Maja.
And the on-loan Forrest striker could have been an excellent addition to an already impressive Sunderland front-line.
Ross will have new signing Wyke returning from injury this weekend against Oxford United and the Scot will be hopeful that the 25-year-old can battle Cummings for the top-scorer accolade.
