Sunderland have made a number of impressive additions to their squad for League One, with the Black Cats strengthening in some key areas.

Sunderland have made some shrewd signings this summer, with Dylan McGeouch, Glenn Loovens and Luke O’Nien being some of the most exciting arrivals for Black Cats fans.

However, the search was on for a forward with a proven track record in League One, in order for Sunderland to have the best possible chance of returning to the Championship at the first time of asking.

And the Black Cats look to have their man, with prolific forward Charlie Wyke putting pen to paper, and Sunderland fans have taken to social media to react to the news.

Manager Jack Ross had been chasing the former Carlisle United striker for a while and, after the 25-year-old was subject to a number of bids from Sunderland, he has eventually signed for the third tier side.

Wyke scored 23 goals in 53 appearances for Sunderland’s League One competitors Bradford City and also had an excellent record for League Two side Carlisle United, netting 32 goals in 77 outings.

The North-East born man started his career with Middlesborough and has also played for Hartlepool United on two different occasions, but he will now be hoping to fire Sunderland back to the second division with plenty of goals.

Sunderland’s new number nine won’t be ready in time for their highly anticipated game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, with the forward currently carrying an injury that could see him sidelined for a few more weeks.

And Wyke will be keen to hit the ground running when he does return, with the Sunderland faithful hopeful that he can emulate last season’s form and even better his 15-goal tally.

However, Ross will be hoping that his side will still be able to get their season off to a flyer against the Addicks, with young forward Josh Maja and summer arrival Jerome Sinclair both available for selection.
