Sunderland have given their midfielder Didier Ndong notice under his contract.

Didier N'Dong warms up during a Sunderland AFC training session at The Academy of Light on January 17, 2018 in Sunderland, England.

Sunderland endured a full rebuild ahead of their League One campaign over the summer, with 12 new additions and departing players.

High on the agenda for Donald and new manager Jack Ross was to get rid of wantaway midfielder Didier Ndong, who failed to report back for pre-season training.

But earlier this week the Black Cats gave notice to Ndong on his contract, which was meant to end in June 2021 and Sunderland fans have taken to social media to react to the news.

The 24-year-old Gabonese midfielder made 49 appearances for Sunderland after signing for £13.5m back in 2016, a club record transfer deal for the Wearside team.

It was former manager David Moyes who signed the midfielder and aside from his one terrific strike at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, Ndong was somewhat of a flop in the North-East.

Ndong even made a loan move to Watford, where he didn’t feature in the Premier League and the midfield man was also close to signing for Italian side Torino, but failed to agree personal terms.

And his departure certainly signifies the beginning of a new era on Wearside, with Ross and Donald at the helm and several new signings in pursuit of taking Sunderland back to the top-flight.
