Sunderland have had a summer rebuild ahead of their pivotal League One season, which begins in just under one week, with several in’s and out’s on Wearside.

The Black Cats have brought in some exciting signings, with Dylan McGeouch, Chris Maguire and Jerome Sinclair all arriving ahead of the new season which Sunderland will hope ends in promotion back to the Championship.

And Sunderland manager Jack Ross’s latest addition comes in the form of Peterborough United captain Jack Baldwin, with fans on Wearside taking to social media to react to the news.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year-deal with the former Premier League regulars, and will be looking to make an immediate impact in the heart of defence when Sunderland start their League One campaign against Charlton next Saturday.

Baldwin has made 203 appearances in both League One, League Two and domestic cup competitions, with the defender also scoring 11 goals, making him an excellent addition to Sunderland’s side for next season.

The arrival of the former Hartlepool United man isn’t the first defender to arrive on Wearside this summer, with Alim Ozturk, Reece James, Tom Flanagan and Glenn Loovens all putting pen to paper ahead of next season.

Sunderland’s departing players this summer have included a number of senior players, including John O’shea and Billy Jones, leaving Ross’s current squad with very few experienced head’s for a season in a league with plenty of veterans within it.

However, the signing of Loovens and, in particular, Baldwin provides Ross’s side a welcomed amount of experience, as both taken the captain’s armband at their former clubs.
