Sunderland have had a summer rebuild ahead of their season in League One starting next week, with a number of exciting players linking up with Jack Ross’s squad.

The Sunderland manager has chosen to strengthen in a number of areas, but in particular the midfield, with Dylan McGeouch, and Chris Maguire looking to be shrewd acquisitions.

And Sunderland look to have almost completed their summer business, with Luke O’Nien the latest player through the door – and Sunderland fans have taken to social media to react to the news of the 23-year-old linking up with the Black Cats.

O’Nien joins Sunderland from Wycombe Wanderers after achieving promotion from League Two last term. The midfielder made 101 appearances in League Two, scoring 16 goals – eight of which came last season.

O’Nien averaged a goal every 391 minutes, having played 3128 minutes across the season, showing he certainly stands up to the demands of the English Football League.

O’Nien made four assists across the League Two campaign last year, proving he possesses plenty of creativity in his box-to-box midfield role – something that Sunderland have lacked for a number of seasons.

Despite the exciting signing of O’Nien, however, with just over a week until the closure of the transfer window in England, Ross will be hopeful of signing one or two more players – especially a prolific striker who can convert in front of goal.

And as Sunderland start their season at home to Charlton next weekend, the new Black Cats man will certainly be keen to cement a place in his new manager’s side.
