The Sunderland midfielder joined Middlesbrough on Tuesday and becomes one of the many players set to leave Wearside in this window.

Sunderland fans are reacting via social media to the news that their 23-year-old midfielder Paddy McNair has joined local rivals Middlesbrough.
The Black Cats confirmed that the former Manchester United player would leave Wearside after two years with Sunderland, but fans have reacted in different ways.

McNair joined Sunderland in 2016 with former teammate Donald Love for a combined fee of around £7m but, after being plagued by injury in his two-year stint with the Black Cats, the midfielder has struggled to hit the ground running.

McNair did manage to score five goals in 25 appearances last season, despite only clocking up 1069 Championship minutes after an awful streak of injuries.
The Northern Ireland midfielder will link up with Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis in the Championship, where Sunderland’s local rivals will be hopeful of promotion back to the Premier League.
McNair will have a big pre-season ahead of him to ensure he forgets last season’s injury-ridden campaign, with the midfielder looking to focus on his path back to top flight football.

However, Sunderland fans have been split down the middle with the news of McNair seemingly jumping ship from one North East club to another.
