Sunderland summer arrival Max Power will be available for selection against Barnsley on Tuesday.

Sunderland signed Max Power from last season’s League One champions Wigan Athletic in the summer and the midfielder looks like a really smart addition by manager Jack Ross.

The Birkenhead-born man is clearly a level above the third-tier, but something holding him back in progressing with his new side is his temperament and three red cards with only a quarter of the season gone is evidence of that.

Power was sent off for a clumsy challenge against Walsall on Saturday, but the dismissal was slightly harsh and ahead of Sunderland’s pivotal match against Barnsley, the suspension of Power has been rescinded – and Sunderland fans have taken to social media to react to the news.

Power’s quality in the eight matches he has played in this term is undeniable and his two goals in back-to-back matches against Gillingham and Scunthorpe is evidence of his threat in attack.

The former Latic is the linchpin in the Sunderland side in front of the back-four, dictating the pace of the game and finding the passes to the creative wide men in Ross’ side.

And despite another clumsy foul at the Bescot Stadium last Saturday, Power’s inclusion for Sunderland’s match at the Stadium of Light is a huge boost and one which could be the difference in earning three points against their promotion rivals.

The game on Wearside is also a huge chance for Power to prove his two previous suspensions are behind him and that he can and will be a huge asset moving forward in the Black Cats promotion push.
