Sunderland have had nothing but bad times for the past two or three seasons and, after back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and Championship, the Black Cats found themselves in League One.

But, after a summer rebuild and an unbeaten start in the third tier, Jack Ross’s men look to be on the up.

After being appointed captain of Sunderland earlier this summer, George Honeyman has praised the Wearsiders’ turnaround in form in an interview with the Northern Echo.

When speaking about Sunderland’s current form, Honeyman said: “Honestly, it’s the best job in the world at the minute. We know it’s probably not always going to be as rosy as this, we just need to keep mentally switched on and keep these good times coming.

“You normally get a couple of the lads who are left out not too happy, but that’s not the case here. It’s been pretty sensational so far – long may it continue.”

The Black Cats will be hopeful of making up ground on League One table-toppers Peterborough with a win at the weekend, as the two promotion candidates look to kick on from the chasing pack.
