Stewart Donald says Sunderland players wanting to stay on Wearside are at a minimum

The new Sunderland owner commented on Sunderland’s current situation and told fans what to expect in the coming weeks on the transfer front.

Black Cats fans have enjoyed a refreshing new bond with new Sunderland owner Stewart Donald, with the former Eastleigh chairman taking time to speak with fans via social media and other platforms.

Supporters on Wearside have welcomed Donald’s arrival after years of neglect from former owner Ellis Short and with season ticket sales surpassing 20,000 – Sunderland fans are ecstatic about the new season, despite their team being in League One.

However, Donald has revealed that there are very few players who wish to stay at Sunderland after back-to-back relegations from the Premier League and Championship.

From the first day that Donald became the official owner of the Black Cats, there has been no secret in the fact that he alongside new manager Jack Ross are keen to rid of any player who does not want to play for Sunderland.

And although fans were expecting a number of players to leave Wearside, early indications from Donald suggest that there are a number of players looking to move on from the League One side – and that supporters should expect plenty of comings and goings this summer.

Despite the news not being something that fans may welcome, the hardcore supporter on Wearside certainly appreciates the honesty and respect Donald is showing to his fans.

Sunderland’s new manager Ross will be keen to get the club’s first transfer through the door, with the former St Mirren man yet to make any signings.

However, despite the only news on Wearside being the few outgoing transfers and released players, Donald has given fans some welcomed good news.

The 31,500 pink seats that previously stained the infamous Stadium of Light and signalled the neglect near the end of Short’s reign are set to be replaced in the coming weeks, after Donald announced on social media the club may need the help of its fans to replace them.

42-year-old Ross will be keen to get a better idea of the squad he will be embarking on League One with next term, with the Sunderland manager currently in limbo over who may or may not be on Wearside come August.

However, even though Ross is yet to make any transfers, work behind the scenes will continue to happen with fans excited by the thought of a brand new era at their beloved Sunderland.
