We believe that Sunderland manager Jack Ross will make several changes to the side that lost to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup in midweek.

Sunderland face off against promotion rivals Scunthorpe United on Sunday afternoon, with the home side hoping to forget their first loss of the season earlier this week.

Jack Ross made a number of changes to the side who were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup, including two young prospects. And after giving a chance to many fringe players in midweek, the Sunderland manager will likely make a number changes this weekend.

19-year-old Josh Maja, the man at the centre of Sunderland’s goalscoring this season, was benched for the EFL Cup tie, but did feature for a short period in the latter stages of the second half. Maja has two goals this season and his first-half absence on Thursday was clear to see, with Sunderland struggling to convert their chances.

Sunderland fans will also be hoping to see the return of Glenn Loovens at central defence, after the pairing of Alim Ozturk and Jack Baldwin in the heart of defence struggled.

The Black Cats face a tough challenge when they welcome United to the Stadium of Light, but another win at home could propel Sunderland to the top of League One.

This is how we think Sunderland will line-up against Nick Daws’ Scunthorpe side, with with seven changes to the side that crashed out of the EFL Cup earlier this week:
