Sunderland edged out AFC Wimbledon last weekend with a 2-1 win at Kingsmeadow.
Sunderland were extremely successful on the road last week, with wins over Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon, leaving the Black Cats second in the League One table.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross named an unchanged side on Saturday at Kingsmeadow, and despite winning 2-1, some players were visibly tiring from playing three games in six days. Ross’s side next take on Oxford United back at the Stadium of Light Tuesday night.
The Wearsiders are beginning to welcome back some of their injured players, including new signing Dylan McGeouch – who impressed from the bench against Neal Ardley’s side.
Summer signing Charlie Wyke has also been rumoured to be back fit for the game against Oxford, but will likely be on the bench with forward Josh Maja in the form of his life – having netted four goals in five games.
One of the only struggling players from the last three games has been right-back Donald Love, who still seems to be one step behind the pace required for the third tier.
First-choice full-back Adam Matthews, however, is likely to slot straight back into the first-team. As is Bryan Oviedo – who came off the bench and made a huge difference against the Wombles.
