Sunderland play their second cup match in as many days on Tuesday evening as the travel to the Globe Arena to take on League Two Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Jack Ross’ side beat Port Vale on Sunday afternoon in the first-round of the FA Cup via a 2-1 score-line – extending their winning run to seven straight matches in all competitions.

The Black Cats will be hoping to grab a win to secure their place in the knockout rounds of the competition against a struggling fourth-tier side and manager Ross may want to field some of his fringe players in order to rest key men.

Likely candidates to be rested include the impressive Chris Maguire, who has been at the heart of everything good on Wearside – but is more than overdue a rest ahead of a hectic winter schedule.

Max Power, Luke O’Nien and Bryan Oviedo are three fringe first-team players who will be desperate for a chance and after impressing from the bench on Sunday afternoon, Power will be hoping to show more of the same form.

Young forward Benjamin Kimpioka will also be hoping for a start, especially after scoring the opener in Sunderland’s last match in this competition against Carlisle United last month when the Black Cats ran out 3-1 winners.

Elsewhere in the Wearside team, Robbin Ruiter will be hoping to show his manager he is worthy of a place between the posts, as well as Glenn Looves, Alim Ozturk and Donald Love all vying for a spot in the Sunderland side.

Below is how we predict Sunderland to line-up for their trip to Lancashire, with nine changes to the side that beat Port Vale in the FA Cup.
