Newcastle summer recruit Federico Fernandez has been one of the shining lights in United’s poor start to their second season in the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez’s men have picked up just one point from four games and sit in the top-flight relegation zone.

However, in an interview with the Chronicle, Fernandez revealed the squad are in good spirits and will look to push on in their next game.

When speaking about Newcastle’s poor start, the 29-year-old said: “I think during the season everyone has a bad run. It happens with the big teams.

“Now we start our season. We make sure we keep pushing each other, play good football and win games.

“I’m here to help everyone. I’m happy to play and push the guys. I think the team spirit is good. We need to carry on for the next game.” Fernandez added.

Benitez’s players have actually been reasonably impressive defensively so far this season and Fernandez was a big part of Newcastle almost grabbing a point away to Premier League Champions Manchester City last Saturday.

The Magpies’ big worry for the season ahead is their lack of goal-scoring options, but if the Spanish manager can find the right formula for goals, Newcastle should survive relegation with the squad they have.
