Middlesbrough overcame Rochdale in midweek to advance into the third-round of the Carabao Cup.
Jordan Hugill joined Middlesbrough earlier this summer – the team he has supported since being a boy – from Premier League side West Ham United on a loan-deal.
The Middlesbrough-born man made his first start in Tony Pulis’s side’s win over Rochdale in the Carabao Cup and Hugill managed to bag himself a goal.
And, in the wake of a strike that helped his side advance into the third round, Hugill admitted he was delighted to have scored for Boro in an interview with Teeside Live.
When speaking about his goal, Hugill said: “I just tried to get something on the ball and obviously I managed to get my head on it and the ball flew in the bottom of the net so I was delighted, it was a brilliant feeling.
“I was buzzing to be honest. Absolutely buzzing. I’ve waited a long time to get that goal in a competitive match and to do it here, at the Riverside, was a bit special. It was amazing for me.”
Pulis’s side have made an excellent start to another season in the second tier, with Middlesbrough unbeaten in both the Championship and Carabao Cup.
The Boro face their toughest test yet on Friday night, as they travel to Elland Road to face promotion rivals Leeds United, and Hugill could certainly play his part.
