Ashley Fletcher netted two goals in Middlesbrough’s EFL Cup win over Notts County on Tuesday evening.

Ashley Fletcher has had a tough couple of years since his move to Middlesbrough in 2017, which has included a move to Sunderland.

Fletcher was a part of the Sunderland side that were relegated from the Championship in the 2017/18 season, contributing just one goal against Derby County when the Wearsiders were as good as relegated.

However, after an impressive display at the start of this season, this term could see Fletcher play a role in Middlesbrough’s attempt at gaining promotion back to the Premier League.

Fletcher impressed in Boro’s recent EFL Cup win against Notts County, when the 22-year-old netted two goals including a beautifully crafted right footed finish from the left channel.

Last season’s Sunderland flop looks to have recaptured his form shown from his time at Barnsley, where he scored five goals in 21 games and has continued his form of pre-season, where he netted three goals across two games.

However, Fletcher will have to continue proving his critics wrong in an attempt to dislodge the in-form Martin Braithwaite and ever-present Britt Assombalonga from their forward roles this season.

But with performances like the one Fletcher showed against County on Tuesday evening, Fletcher will soon get his chance to showcase his ability and show he could play a major role in the Boro’s important season.

Pulis will be excited by the form shown by Fletcher and with new signing Jordan Hugill set to return from injury within the next few weeks, Middlesbrough could have the best squad of strikers in the second division.
